Since 1987 there’s the artist house “Stadttöpferei”, based in the historical city centre of Neumünster, northern Germany. It is run by the Dr. Hans Hoch Foundation as a special place for art and artists for contemporary advanced ceramic art. The institution is evolving constantly and is characterized by numerous ceramic artists who have lived and worked here. Activities include regular exhibitions and workshops in the gallery or the International Ceramic Symposium, which took place here in 2010 for the first time.Due to the new internationally announced program “Ceramic Artist in Residence” that started in 2013, we offer the opportunity for artists to live, work and exhibit at the residency house free of rent. This residency program focussing on dialog on contemporary positions of advanced ceramic art, intercultural exchange, as well as experiments with materials and audience. For 2014, a jury will award 10 residencies to live and work here.
Conditions
This residency is designed to accomodate emerging artists for 4 weeks free of charge and includes a well equipped ceramic studio, as well as a comfortable living space. The resident will be provided with basic materials and electric and gas kilns firings during the course of the residency. The studio space is open to the public during the day, artists are requested to be present and available for visitors giving them an insight into their creative process. Each artist need to present themself and their way of working, in the middle of the residency in the form of a public lecture or workshop. At the end of the residency a final public presentation in the form of a exhibition or performance, focussing on the work produced at Stadttöpferei, is expected.
Application
Applications for the four-week stay in 2014 will be accepted latest until 20th October 2013. The residence program mainly supports emerging artists who focussing on contemporary advanced ceramic art, who are not older then 38 years old at the time of application and who use clay as their primary material. This residency is only avaliable once for each artist.

Künstlerhaus Stadttöpferei Neumünster
Im historischen Stadtzentrum in Neumünster befindet sich seit 1987 das von der Dr. Hans Hoch Stiftung betriebene Künstlerhaus „Stadttöpferei Neumünster“ als ein besonderer Ort für Kunst und Künstler für zeitgenössische und anspruchsvolle Keramikkunst. Die Institution entwickelt sich stetig weiter und ist geprägt von zahlreichen Keramikkünstlerinnen und -künstlern, die hier gearbeitet und gelebt haben. Zu den Aktivitäten gehören regelmäßige Ausstellungen und Workshops in der Galerie oder das Internationale Keramiksymposium, das hier 2010 erstmals stattfand.
Seit 2013 bietet das international ausgeschriebene Programm “Ceramic Artist in Residence“ Künstlern Gelegenheit, im Rahmen eines Gastaufenthaltes mietfrei im Künstlerhaus Stadttöpferei zu wohnen, zu arbeiten und auszustellen. Die Auseinandersetzung mit zeitgenössischen Positionen der Freien Keramik, der interkulturelle Dialog sowie Experimente mit Material und Publikum stehen im Mittelpunkt dieses Stipendienprogrammes. Für das Jahr 2014 vergibt eine Fachjury 10 Wohn- und Arbeitsstipendien.
Konditionen
Jungen Künstlerinnen oder Künstlern werden im Künstlerhaus Stadttöpferei für die Dauer von vier Wochen Atelier- und Wohnräume sowie Geräte (Öfen, Töpferscheibe etc.) kostenlos zur Verfügung gestellt. Der Brand in Elektro- oder Gasofen ist kostenfrei. Grundmaterialien werden ebenfalls kostenlos zur Verfügung gestellt. Das Künstlerhaus Stadttöpferei ist tagsüber geöffnet. Die Künstlerinnen und Künstler sind in dieser Zeit anwesend und gewähren den Besuchern einen Einblick in ihren Schaffensprozess. Zur Mitte des Aufenthalts stellen die Künstler sich und ihre Arbeitsweise in einer Präsentation in Form einer öffentlichen Vorlesung oder eines Workshops vor. Am Ende wird eine abschließende öffentliche Präsentation in Form einer Ausstellung oder Performance erwartet, in der die entstandenen Arbeiten im Vordergrund stehen.
Bewerbung
Bewerbungen für den vierwöchigen Aufenthalt im Jahr 2014 werden bis spätestens 20. Oktober 2013 entgegen genommen. Das Aufenthaltsprogramm unterstützt vorrangig Nachwuchskünstlerinnen und -künstler, die einen Schwerpunkt auf zeitgenössische und anspruchsvolle Keramikkunst legen, die zum Zeitpunkt der Bewerbung nicht älter als 38 Jahre sind und sich überwiegend mit keramischen Materialien auseinandersetzen. Mehrmalige Teilnahmen sind ausgeschlossen.

Bewerbungen die nicht vollständig sind oder nach dem Bewerbungsschluss eintreffen, können nicht berücksichtigt werden. Die Auswahl der Künstlerinnen und Künstler wird von einer Fachjury getroffen. Innerhalb von vier Wochen nach Bewerbungsschluss werden die Künstlerinnen und Künstler über das Ergebnis der Jury-Entscheidung informiert.
